FAQs
Do I still need to go to class?
The IB Mathematics Online Intensive Courses should be used to complement classroom learning. It is not meant to replace classroom teaching. Yes still need to attend class but you should notice significant difference in your level of understanding and performance inside the classroom.
How can I achieve optimal results?
Watch the videos and take notes. That’s the only thing you have to do. When you don’t understand something, note that down and take it to someone for clarification. To get the full benefit of the intensive courses you need to watch the videos in a short space of time, ideally 2-4 weeks. The reason for this is the following. The way the course will help you perform consistently better in the classroom is through three main ways.
You will see the entire course in a short space of time so your ability to recall different parts of the course will be better because you will have seen other parts of it hopefully only a few days ago and not months apart. This will enable you to see how different topics are connected. The ability to link topics is what will help you score the top grade.
Sometimes you have a great teacher but they are not matching your style of learning. You may just need someone to say the same thing in a different way for you to understand what is going on. The intensive course cuts through all the fluff and gets straight to the point.
Often students need to see a concept multiple times and when they see it presented in several different ways it helps them form a deeper understanding. When you have watched the videos on calculus for example, and then you go to class and your teacher explains it again - you will naturally be asking questions at a much higher level because you have already seen it before albeit in a slightly different way. This will help you become a more valuable member of the classroom since your engagements in class will be more meaningful.
Can the IB Mathematics Intensive Courses negatively impact my results?
Our biggest worry is that students complete the online intensive and then feel it is OK to switch off in class or not do any questions they think are too easy for them because they already know it. If this is what you want to do then this course is not for you. The best students know the basics exceptionally well and when asked to perform trivial tasks they complete it with impeccable precision and importantly, without moaning and groaning about it. There is a difference between arrogance and confidence. We want you to be confident that you know, not arrogant. If you want to show off to your peers that you know everything - this course is not for you.
What if I have questions after watching the course online can I contact you for additional tutorials?
If after the Online intensive course you would like further tutorials for clarifications or assistance with exam questions then you may enquire about private tutorials.
How can I expect my grades to improve if I do everything you say?
If you are currently struggling to score a passing grade (a passing grade is a four or above) in your assessments then within 3-6 months of completing the intensive course you can expect to consistently score a passing grade.
If you are already consistently scoring a passing grade then after completing the IB Mathematics Online Intensive Course you can expect to score at least one grade higher in the short term (3 - 6 months) and possibly two grades in the longer term.
In order to enter top universities, you need to be predicted the highest grade possible by your teachers so if they see rapid growth they are more likely to predict the higher grade.
In both instances you will know the Intensive Course has been a success not because of the grades but because when you are inside the classroom you will be able to follow what is going on. You will make connections with what is happening in the classroom and things you have already seen on the IB Mathematics Online Intensive Course. Things will make more sense to you. The final indicator is the level of questions you ask to your teachers you will see is at a much more sophisticated level.
